Volvo has revealed that its next-generation XC90, which will launch as a 2015 model year, will be offered with a plug-in hybrid variant.
Dubbed Twin Engine, the plug-in hybrid drivetrain will feature a turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 300 hp mated to an electric motor. Combined, the system will offer drivers 442 lb-ft of torque and the Swedish automaker is promising that it will provide “class-leading” mileage.

Not much is known about the XC90, other than the fact that Volvo will be ushering in its new design language on the model. Previewed by the Concept Coupe, expect the 2015 XC90 to feature T-shaped LED daytime running lights, a floating grille and a more angular design. It will also be the first vehicle to be built on Volvo’s new Scalable Platform Architecture. Expect the 2015 XC90 to make its debut at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show.
