Detailed specifications for the 2015 BMW M3 and M4 have been revealed, both of which will be powered by a 3.0-liter straight-six engine with 425 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque.
The performance increase will definitely be noticeable compared to the previous-generation M3 and M4, which had 414 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. The big news of course, is that the M3 and M4 are both turbocharged, which has become a staple of BMW models as of late. And though most M3 and M4 owners hardly care about fuel efficiency, the German automaker notes that fuel economy has increased by 25 percent.

The power is brought to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission with an auto throttle-blipping function, though both models can also be ordered with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT). Surprisingly, the BMW M3 and M4 will also feature a “Smokey Burnout function,” similar to what is rumored to make an appearance on the 2015 Ford Mustang.
The M4 will weigh in at 3,300 lbs while the M3 will be slightly heavier at 3,350 lbs. Both are roughly 170 lbs lighter than their predecessors. Both vehicles will accelerate to 60 mph in 4.1 seconds with the manual transmission, while the DCT-equipped models will do it in 3.9 seconds. Top speed limited at 155 mph on both models.
For those looking to take the M3 and M4 drifting, the German automaker also stated that the M Dynamic Mode “allows greater wheel slip and therefore easy drifting.”
Pricing in the UK was announced at £56,175 for the M3 and £56,653 for the M4. Pricing in the U.S. has not yet been officially announced.
