BMW Recalling Over 76K Vehicles for Airbag Flaw

The pressure-sensing mat meant to determine whether the front passenger airbag will deploy is causing BMW to recall 76,565 vehicles in the U.S.

BMW will begin notifying affected owners of the campaign in January, but the company won’t begin fixing the problem until March because of short supplies. Dealers will send initial letters to notify owners of the campaign and a second set will be mailed once the repairs can begin.

Models under the recall come from the 2006 and 2007 model years and include versions of the 3 Series, 5 Series, 7 Series and X5 crossover. Owners with further questions may contact BMW by calling (800) 525-7417.
