Ferrari boss Luca di Montezemolo likes the idea of Ferrari re-entering the prototype class of sports car racing.
“We have won with the 458 GTE, but I also quite like the idea of racing at Le Mans in the highest category: who knows, maybe one day we can return and win, say thanks and come home,” he said.
If Ferrari competed in LMP1, it would mark the first time the brand did so since 1973.
“Maybe we should give it some serious consideration…” he said. The company is considering the return because the new generation of F1 engines now comply with LMP1 regulations.
The brand hasn’t made an official decision to re-enter Le Mans, but Porsche has said that it plans to compete with Audi and Toyota next year.
