Jonathan Browning has left his position as CEO of Volkswagen America for personal reasons.
Browning will be replaced by Michael Horn on January 1, 2014, the German automaker announced. Horn has been with VW since 1990 and has been the head of Volkswagen global after sales since 2009.
Browning was a former Ford and General Motors executive and joined Volkswagen in 2010. He guided the U.S. arm to a 23 percent gain in 2011 and a 30 percent gain last year. This year however, the German automaker has struggled in America posting a one-percent gain in a market that’s risen eight percent. Sales for the brand have fallen for eight straight months.
