Rinspeed is going to give us a glimpse of the future automotive world at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show with its XchangE electric touring sedan.
Knowing that autonomous driving is destined to become reality sooner than later, Rinspeed has decided to build a car that showcases how automakers could change vehicles to accommodate the luxury of self-driving cars. The Swiss company has outfitted the electric vehicle with seats inspired by business-class seats on major airlines, allowing drivers and passengers to relax comfortably while the vehicle takes them to their destination.
In addition, the steering wheel can be “parked” in the middle of the dash while passengers can enjoy a wide variety of media including listening to music, surfing the web, playing games, watching movies and more.
“So far hardly anyone has taken this to its logical conclusion from the perspective of the driver,” said Rinspeed boss Frank M. Rinderknecht. “After all, traveling in a driverless car will no longer require me to stare at the road, but will let me spend my time in a more meaningful way.”
