BMW’s new X1 is expected to arrive in 2015 as a 2016 model riding on the brand’s new UKL platform.
Before that can happen, it needs to run through a long series of tests and AutoGuide.com’s spy photographers caught the German cute ute undergoing cold weather testing. The small utility vehicle will share its underpinnings with the new 1 Series as well as MINI’s upcoming Cooper and its derivative models.
Production costs will presumably be reduced by migrating the car to its new platform. Interior space is also expected to increase as a result of the new packaging. Base models will arrive with front-wheel drive while versions with larger, more powerful engines will be mated to an all-wheel drive system.
