Audi will debut a new version of its Sport Quattro concept at the 2014 Consumer Electronics Show equipped with laserbeam headlights..
The Sport Quattro Laserlight concept features the same 700 hp hybrid powertrain as when it was first unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show and looks nearly identical. What make it unique are the headlights powered by laser diodes boasting a 1,640-foot range that is twice the distance LED high beams can emit. They are also about three times as bright as LED high beams and each diode measures in just a few micrometers in diameter.
While it’s not expected that laser-equipped headlights will make their way to production vehicles anytime soon, we can only hope that Audi is hard at work on making a production version of its Sport Quattro.
“The new show car demonstrates technical ‘Vorsprung’ on many levels,” said Prof. Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg. “On-board this car we have e-tron technology with 515 kW of power and 2.5 l/100 km (94.09 US mpg) fuel economy; laser headlights that leave all previous systems in the dark with its higher performance as well as new display and operating systems with cutting-edge electronic performance. We are showing the future of Audi here.”
