2013 Buick Encore

Riding on strong demand in China, Buick broke its global sales record for the first time since 1984.

General Motors’ pseudo luxury brand sits between Chevrolet and Cadillac and is one of four remaining brands after the Detroit giant became partially owned by the U.S. government. Globally, the brand sold 1.03 million vehicles last year and over 78 percent of that went to China. The brand reported a 15.7 percent sales increase in its biggest market. Sales in the U.S. grew by almost 14 percent.

Buick’s Encore small crossover was one of the biggest sales surprises last year. Even at the point when it was first being launched, the company wasn’t sure where it would fit into the market, but sales took off to sell over 97,300 worldwide. Roughly a third of those sold in the U.S.
