Cadillac is preparing an ATS-L, a long-wheelbase variant of its ATS sedan that will be built specifically for the Chinese market.
The American automaker will increase the ATS sedan’s wheelbase by about four inches to become the ATS-L and the model will reportedly be built in China. The ATS-L will compete with the BMW 335Li and the long-wheelbase Mercedes C-Class model, but to give it an extra edge, Cadillac is expanding the engine offerings.
In China, the ATS currently can be had with a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine but the ATS-L will have all of the powerplants from the ATS lineup available including the base 2.5-liter engine and the more powerful 3.6-liter V6. Production of the ATS-L is expected to begin in the second half of this year and will be priced competitively with other long-wheelbase variants in the segment.
