Land Rover has filed to trademark the name “Landy,” a name which could be used for a compact urban SUV.
According to the trademark application that was filed last month, it is intended to cover everything from vehicles to clothing, scale models and franchising for vehicle dealerships. There has always been rumors that the British automaker wanted to manufacture a stylish urban SUV based on the Evoque platform with styling inspired by the DC100 concepts (seen above).
Land Rover officials in the past have stated that an urban SUV model has been considered, but no sound business case or decision has been made. But with the new generation of MINI models and BMW’s new front-wheel-drive X1, Land Rover now has a more compelling reason to join the marketplace.
