Mazda has revealed more details on its prototype race cars that will be competing in the 2014 TUDOR United SportsCar Championship.
Powered by a 2.2-liter SkyActiv diesel engine, the Mazda prototype will boast 450 hp and 580 lb-ft of torque while weighing just 1,984 lbs without a driver or fuel. Two race cars will compete in the 2014 United SportsCar Championship with the number-70 car driven by Sylvain Tremblay and Tom Long while the number-07 car will be piloted by Joel Miller and Tristan Nunez.
The Japanese automaker will be the only race entrant competing in the championship with a diesel engine.
“There is no shortage of great racing talent in America,” said John Doonan, Director of Motorsports for Mazda North American Operations. “The decision for this year was relatively simple though as our 2013 line-up excelled both on and off the track.”
