Shelby will be heading to the 2014 Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale, Arizona with a very special limited edition Cobra 289 FIA 50th Anniversary sports car.
This year, Shelby is celebrating 50 years since it had a small-block Cobra FIA compete in the 1964 Manufacturers Championship series. Limited to just 50 units, the Shelby Cobra 289 FIA 50th Anniversary will be based on the original Cobra 289 FIA race cars which were powered by a Ford 289 cubic inch small-block V8.
The continuation cars will, however, be offered as a rolling chassis so that the owners can install whichever powertrain and drivetrain they choose. The chassis will weigh around 2,100 lbs according to Shelby, making them the lightest Cobras ever produced.
Along with the Viking Blue paint with FIA stripes and roundels, the 289 FIA 50th Anniversary also features black FIA interior with an optional detachable steering wheel, special billet anniversary badges, original-style wheels and more. Available in fiberglass ($94,995) or aluminum ($159,995), each vehicle is built on a stronger frame than the originals and have been updated with disc brakes.
