The next-generation Audi TT is set to make its official debut at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show, and could preview future additions to the TT family.
In a recent interview, Audi’s chief engineer Ulrich Hackenburg admitted that the TT might not just come in coupe and convertible form for its next generation. In fact, the Allroad Shooting Brake concept could become a possibility. “The trend is to smaller crossovers,” said Hackenburg. “So for example you could do a crossover TT. It would have a big group of fans.”
But even more exciting, Hackenburg shared news about a more hardcore, lighter TT that could weigh in at under 2,200 lbs. “I could imagine a limited series,” shared Hackenburg. Thanks to the German automaker’s new MQB architecture, that new hardcore variant would be able to use lightweight components such as a carbon fiber roof.
Either way, it looks like Audi will be paying close attention to the public’s reception of the third-generation TT and if it becomes a success, don’t be surprised to see spin offs.
