K-Pax Racing, a team known for fielding Volvos just announced it will campaign a pair of McLaren 12C GT3 cars in the Pirelli World Challenge sports car series this year.
K-Pax is gunning for a fourth championship in this racing series and with these new cars their chances are arguably better than ever. The McLaren 12C GT3s debuted in Europe back in 2012 where they won 19 out of 98 starts. A year later the cars took home 22 victories out of 101 starts. Twenty-fourteen will be the competitive debut of these machines in the United States.
The 12C GT3’s chassis is constructed of lightweight and super-strong carbon fiber. The car’s front and rear subframes are made of aluminum. Blowing them down the track like the winds of a hurricane is a twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter V8 that’s matched to a six-speed sequential transmission.
Beyond the “stock” MP4-12C these race-prepared cars feature upgraded radiators, gearbox coolers and numerous aerodynamic enhancements.
Before turning to McLaren K-Pax Racing fielded two Volvo S60s for the last five seasons of the Pirelli World Challenge series. They won more GT-class wins than any other manufacturer, beating companies like Audi, Cadillac and Mercedes-Benz.
