The next-generation Land Rover Freelander is expected to take on the Discovery nameplate, and AutoGuide‘s spy photographers have caught the latest prototype conducting some winter testing in Sweden.
The new SUV is based on the modified Evoque platform and will be larger than the current Freelander model. Expect the styling to also be influenced by the Evoque, giving it a more modern design in hopes of increasing its sales.
Rumor has it that the British automaker will be creating a Discovery sub-brand for its lineup and will have a similar naming convention as the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport models. In America, the Freelander is more commonly known as the LR2 while the Discovery sports the LR4 nameplate.
