A new Subaru Legacy Sport model powered by a turbocharged engine is reportedly on its way, while the Japanese brand is also planning to add an updated six-cylinder engine to the Legacy.
According to a report from Car & Driver, the new Legacy Sport will get the same turbocharged 2.0-liter four cylinder that is found in the new WRX as well as the Forester XT. In those cars, the engine makes 250 hp and 268 hp respectively.
As for transmissions, the previous Legacy Sport model was offered as manual only, but for 2015 the Legacy dropped its stick shift in favor of a CVT, and it isn’t known whether or not the stick shift will reappear with the new sport model.

The Legacy’s larger engine, a 3.6-liter flat six, is also being replaced by a smaller, more powerful flat six, but not until the car’s mid-cycle refresh which will happen in roughly three years time. The new flat six is also likely to find its way into the updated Outback, as well as a new three-row crossover coming from the brand.
