A vehicle that won the 1975 12 Hours of Sebring race has returned to the winner’s circle 39 years later.

The BMW 3.0 CSL number-25 race car won the Best-in-Class honors at this year’s Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance while the BMW 3.0 CSL Group 2 race car that won the 1973 European Sedan Championship took second place at the event. Those 3.0 CSL race cars were the first cars to be developed under the BMW Motorsport banner and were also the first to sport the new official colors of BMW Motorsport that we all know so well now.

The number-25 vehicle is part of the BMW of North America Classic collection and is setup just as it was when it won the 1975 12 Hours of Sebring race.

A limited number of BMW 3.0 CSL vehicles were produced and sold for street use in order to homologate the car for racing purposes. The class-winning BMW 3.0 CSL will also be featured in the Gallery of Legends at this weekend’s 12 Hours of Sebring event.
