Goodyear-Blimp

The Goodyear Blimp is known far and wide thanks to its constant appearances at auto races and professional sporting events, and an all-new version of the icon has been revealed.

Goodyear touts the new blimp as “larger, faster, and more maneuverable,” and they’re not kidding about the larger part. Measuring in at 246 feet long, the new blimp is 50 feet longer than the previous generation, and is just 18 yards shy of matching a football field in length.

As for speed, Goodyear’s latest high-flying portly passenger ship can hit 73 mph, a full 23 mph faster than the previous blimp, all while carrying 12 passengers. All riders are surrounded by a wrap around glass window providing a panaromic view of the festivities below.

Goodyear is launching a contest to name the new blimp, the winner of which will be awarded one day of exclusive access to the airship, while nine runners up will be awarded a free set of tires. Previous Goodyear blimp names have ranged from ‘Snow Bird,’ to ‘Spirit of Innovation.’
