McLaren is already working on a new product that will take the P1’s place as a flagship model once that car’s limited run concludes.
Internally codenamed the P15, the new McLaren sports car will serve as a flagship once each of the planned 375 P1s are produced and passed into private ownership. Unlike the more-than-million-dollar sports car, the P15 will cost somewhere around $500,000 according to a report from AutoBlog that also confirms the project albeit without directly quoting a source to that affect.
The P15 – like all of McLaren’s sports cars – will be based on the same carbon fiber monocoque structure, although the company’s Formula 1 partnership with Honda could lend powertrain technology from Honda to the new car. However, it is more likely that the car will use a version of the same turbocharged 3.8-liter V8 found in the 12C and P1 sending power to the rear wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
