Mercedes-Benz isn’t planning to offer a V6 version of its upcoming sports car.

AMG CEO Tobias Moers told GT Spirit that there is still “a lot of potential to make the V8 more efficient” and that there won’t be a V6 version of the upcoming AMG GT. Recent rumors suggested that Mercedes would offer a less potent version of the car.

Rather than serving as a direct successor to the SLS, Mercedes’ new sports car is expected to sell at a lower price point and compete more directly with the Porsche 911.

Mercedes is expected to publicly debut the car later this year, likely during the Paris Motor Show in early October. It is expected to reach dealerships sometime in early 2015.
