Racing is risky, period. You don’t even need to smash into a barrier for something to go wrong.
This was the case at the 2014 12 Hours of Sebring, when Ben Keating’s SRT Viper GT3-R caught fire for no obvious reason. Keating stopped on the track, and within seconds the car became engulfed in flames.
Keating escaped the fire with no injuries, and safety crews managed to extinguish the fire without too much hassle. It caused a caution flag to come out that lasted almost an hour, as crews worked to repair the track.
