Chevrolet just couldn’t let the compact crossover segment grow without its own entry.
The American automaker unveiled the 2015 Chevrolet Trax for the U.S. market at this year’s New York Auto Show, and though it is technically and mechanically the same as the Buick Encore, it’ll serve a completely different purpose than its luxury stable mate. Powered by a 1.4-liter turbo four-cylinder engine with 138 hp and 148 lb-ft of torque, the Trax will be an affordable compact crossover aimed at young city drivers that need cargo capacity.

The Trax has been sold in the Canadian market since the 2013 model year but Chevy gave it a facelift for its U.S. debut. The Trax will likely be priced under $20,000 for the U.S. market, though official pricing hasn’t been announced. The vehicle should be heading to dealerships before the end of this year.
