Porsche Macan Gets Four-Cylinder Power in Asia

That’s right, Porsche will soon sell a vehicle powered by a four-cylidner engine again.

It has been almost 20 years since Porsche sold a model with a four-cylinder engine, the last of which was the Porsche 968 which was produced from 1992 to 1995. At the 2014 Beijing Motor Show, Porsche brought its new Macan and revealed that for select Asian markets, it will be available with the Volkswagen Group’s 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder EA888 engine. For the Macan, the powerplant will be be the same as the Volkswagen Golf GTI Performance Package, which is good for 230 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque.

The four-cylinder powerplant will be mated to a seven-speed PDK transmission and according to the German automaker, it will run from 0-62 mph in 6.9 seconds. To distinguish it from the other models in the lineup, the four-cylinder Macan will have 18-inch wheels and twin trapezoidal-shaped exhaust tips.
