We will get our first look into Scion‘s future at this year’s Los Angeles Auto Show.

The Scion brand entered the market with a bang in 2003, but over a decade later, its lineup has arguably become stagnant and even the FR-S hasn’t rejuvenated the brand’s sales. As a result, the Japanese automaker plans on replacing three of its five nameplates within a two-year period starting in 2015. According to Scion Vice President Doug Murtha, the first of those three will be unveiled at this year’s LA Auto Show. Murtha however, declined to reveal which category or segment the model will be in, but hinted that it would be within the compact or subcompact market.

Of the five Scion models, xB, xD, iQ, tC and FR-S, the xB and xD are both seven years into their current product cycle. It is likely that we’ll be seeing either a new xB or xD replacement coming at this year’s LA Auto Show and if we had to guess, we’d point towards the xB given its popularity in the U.S. Toyota sources have also stated that the automaker is looking into importing the Auris hatchback from Europe as a next-generation product, while the brand is also looking into the subcompact crossover segment, which means a competitor to the Juke and Fit.

But don’t be surprised if Scion replaces a model for an entirely new one, as Murtha said that the replacements might not be “necessarily like for like.”

In total, Scion has sold nearly one-million vehicles since it entered the market in 2003 and last year moved 68,321 units marking a seven-percent drop. Through March 2013, Scion has seen a drop of 12 percent in demand. For now, the brand is focusing on new Release Series models, such as the Scion FR-S RS 1.0, which recently debuted at the 2014 New York Auto Show.
