2015 Volkswagen Golf Gets $2,000 Price Cut

A year after it launched in Europe, Volkswagen is introducing the new 2015 Golf to America, with a base price of $18,815 including destination charges.

There are two powertrains available for the Golf along with both two- and four-door configurations. The car can be had with either a 1.8-liter turbocharged four-cylinder gas engine that makes 170 hp and 200 lb-ft of torque or a four-cylinder turbo diesel that cranks out 150 hp and 236 lb-ft of torque. A five-speed manual is standard on most gasoline models, while a six-speed automatic is available. The diesel powered cars get a six-speed manual as standard, while a six-speed dual-clutch automatic is an available upgrade.

The base model, the two-door Golf Launch Edition, is fitted with the gas motor along with a manual transmission. Standard features include Bluetooth, a touchscreen radio setup, cloth seats with manual lumbar adjustment, power windows and power door locks along with air conditioning.

The next model is the Golf S, which starts at $19,815 for a two-door model, though the four-door begins at $21,515. This model add features such as VW Car-Net connected services, leatherette seats, leather-wrapped hand brake and shift knob, multifunction steering wheel and cruise control.

The midrange Golf SE model begins at $25,315, and can only be had as a four-door with an automatic transmission. This car gets 17-inch aluminum alloy wheels, heated front seats, automatic headlights, rain-sensing wipers, front fog lights and more.

Diesel-powered models can only be had with four doors, though options mirror the three different packages available for the gas-engine cars, except in pricing. The cheapest diesel Golf you can buy is the TDI S Clean Diesel, which starts at $22,815, lowering the entry price to the diesel-powered cars by about $3,000. Moving up, the Golf TDI SE will sell for $26,315. At the top of the diesel-powered range, the Golf TDI SEL will sell for $28,815.
