As if BMW’s M5 wasn’t exciting enough, the German luxury brand is offering a special 30 Jahre Edition with more power in limited production.
Early details about the car, which serves as a 30th anniversary marker for the nameplate, leaked days ago including the fact that it’s 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 makes 592 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque. The powertrain is potent enough to launch the car from 0-62 mph (100 km/h) in only 3.9 seconds, making it the fastest street-legal vehicle BMW’s M Division has ever produced.
That rocket-like acceleration comes courtesy of both the engine and a Getrag-developed seven-speed dual-clutch transmission that also help the car achieve a claimed top speed of 190 mph.
This version of the car includes the M5’s “competition package” among its standard equipment for handling. That means it comes with a revised suspension and an “M” differential.
As you can see, the car also comes with a special appearance package that includes a dark silver shade of BMW’s “frozen” matte paint. There’s also dark chrome trim and 20-inch wheels specific to the model along with badges unique to the special production run.
The interior comes with standard aluminum trim and special Alcantara seats featuring “30 Jahre M5” stitching along with a plaque marking the car’s serial number. In total, BMW plans to offer 300 copies of the car.
