You won’t be seeing any live tigers used to promote the new Porsche Macan anymore.
After receiving complaints from Big Cat Rescue and the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), Porsche has “strongly encouraged” its North American dealers to drop all plans to use live tigers to promote the new crossover. Recently, Reeves Import Motorcars used live tiger cubs during a May 2 promotion of the Macan. Nick Twork, Porsche’s manager of product communications, confirmed that “Porsche does not condone in any way the use of live animals for advertising” to Automotive News.
Other dealerships including Leith Porsche of North Carolina had planned to rent tigers for the unveiling of the Macan at its dealership, but that will no longer be the case.
Macan, which is the Indonesian word for tiger, is Porsche’s latest model and will go on sale in the U.S. this month.
