Taunting us with all of its high-performance Bavarian goodness, our spy photographers have snapped some alluring shots of BMW’s upcoming 2016 M2.
This spunky little two-door is expected to feature a muscular inline-six under its hood. Thanks to turbocharging and other advanced technologies the engine is expected to put out anywhere between 365 and 375 ponies, but of course these are just rumors at this time.
As for transmissions, a six-speed manual will likely be offered, but for drivers that prefer two pedals over three a seven-gear dual-clutch automatic seems likely as well.
Naturally you can’t significantly up an engine’s output without enhancing other parts of the vehicle. Expect monster brakes, a responsive chassis and playful rear-wheel drive; even the base 2 Series is a ton of fun to mess around with, which bodes well for the M version. The styling ought to be considerably more aggressive as well.
Production of the 2016 BMW M2 is expected to start in the fall of 2015.
