Tesla might be readying an even bigger version of the already large Model S sedan that will arrive later this year.
Having recently launched distribution in China – a market where long wheelbase vehicles are especially popular – Tesla is rumored to be working on a stretched version of its only product. Citing an anonymous source from inside the company, Gas 2.0 reports that the brand is working on launching such a product later this year.
The Model S is already an especially large vehicle designed to offer two rows of normal seats and a third row of rear-facing hide-away chairs that are only large enough for small children.
Currently, Tesla is known to be working on launching its Model X crossover. The company previously planned to release its SUV, which is based on the same platform as the Model S, this year. But CEO Elon Musk says the company is intent on getting it right the first time and has delayed the launch until the second quarter of next year.
Musk is also still in the midst of deciding which state will host its first battery manufacturing “Gigafactory,” without which the much-discussed Gen III affordable electric car will not be possible.
