The 2015 Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG coupe has been officially revealed.
Powered by an AMG 6.0-liter V12 biturbo engine, the 2015 Mercedes S65 AMG coupe features 621 hp and 738 lb-ft of torque, making it one of the most unique and powerful luxury coupes on the market. The third AMG high-performance car to come equipped with a V12 engine in the U.S. market, the S65 AMG coupe can accelerate to 60 mph from a standstill in about four seconds and has an electronically limited top speed of 186 mph. The powerplant is mated to an AMG Speedshift Plus 7G-Tronic transmission and the driver can choose between Controlled Efficiency (C), Sport (S) and Manual (M) driving modes with a push of a button.
As standard equipment, the S65 AMG coupe features a lithium-ion battery that helps reduce weight by over 44 lbs according to the German automaker. The new battery replaces both the starter battery and the backup battery and has a capacity of 78 Ah. As expected, the S65 AMG coupe also comes standard with an AMG sports suspension based on Magic Body Control to help deliver a smooth, yet sporty ride. Standard equipment on the model include a 360-degree camera, Active Parking Assist with Parktronic, Burmester high-end 3D surround sound system, Driving Assistance Package Plus, upholstery in AMG exclusive Nappa leather and Keyless-Go package.
Inside, Mercedes-AMG has also outfitted the S65 model with a new three-spoke sports steering wheel with shift paddles while the AMG instrument cluster features a 12.2-inch high-resolution color TFT display.
Orders for the S65 AMG coupe will be available in the coming weeks and the U.S. launch is planned for the end of this year.
“There are AMG fans for whom our V12 biturbo engine is the measure of all things. For this clientele we have developed a unique car in the form of the new S65 AMG Coupe. From driving dynamics to comfort and equipment – our new twelve-cylinder coupe surpasses even the highest of expectations,” said Mercedes chairman Tobias Moers.
