China-Made Volvo S60L Heading to the US
The first China-made vehicle heading to the U.S. will be… a Volvo.
The long-wheelbase Volvo S60L is expected to be the first mainstream China-built vehicle to go on sale in the U.S. and it could happen as soon as next year, according to Volvo Car Group CEO Hakan Samuelsson. Volvo, which is now owned by China’s Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co., has begun production for the S60L at its new plant in Chengdu, China and is currently building up to its maximum 120,000-unit annual production capacity. The standard S60 is still produced in Sweden.

Honda actually sells China-built Fits in Canada, but the S60L will become the first sold in the U.S. by an established automaker. Compared to the standard S60, the S60L has its wheelbase extended by 3.2 inches to 112.5 inches.
