It’s only been about three weeks since Mercedes-Benz officially revealed its new sports car and it’s already getting an especially warm reception.

AMG CEO Tobias Moers told AutoCar that the vehicle is already “pretty much sold out” through the 2015 – 2016 model year. Mercedes hasn’t said how many copies of the car it plans to produce in the first year. German showrooms are slated to take delivery of the new model in March, 2015, with arrival in U.S. showrooms sometime in June.

AMG is aiming to sell 40,000 cars next year and while Moers declined to discuss sales targets specifically for the GT during an interview earlier this month with Bloomberg, he said the company expects it to account for fewer than 20 percent of the brand’s overall sales.

The new sports car is powered by a biturbo 4.0-liter V8 that makes 503 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque in its most aggressive state of tune and powers the rear wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
