Volkswagen Gains on Toyota in Global Sales Race

The Volkswagen Group is looking to dethrone Toyota as the best selling car maker in the world.

The German automaker has narrowed the gap through nine months of sales as two of the world’s largest automakers enter the fourth quarter battling door-to-door.

According to calculations from Bloomberg News, the Volkswagen Group is trailing Toyota by 72,000 deliveries compared to 227,000 a year earlier. While Toyota is enjoying growth in the U.S. market, Volkswagen is enjoying an increase of demand in China.

Both automakers plan on delivering over 10-million vehicles this year.
