The German automaker has narrowed the gap through nine months of sales as two of the world’s largest automakers enter the fourth quarter battling door-to-door.
According to calculations from Bloomberg News, the Volkswagen Group is trailing Toyota by 72,000 deliveries compared to 227,000 a year earlier. While Toyota is enjoying growth in the U.S. market, Volkswagen is enjoying an increase of demand in China.
Both automakers plan on delivering over 10-million vehicles this year.
The Volkswagen Group has seen its deliveries rise five percent compared to a year earlier through nine months this year while Toyota’s sales have climbed 2.8 percent. Toyota is estimated to have sold 7.62-million vehicles through September while Volkswagen trails at 7.54-million units. GM is sitting in third place with 7.37-million vehicles sold.
