There’s a green light in front of Audi’s upcoming answer to the BMW X6.
Based on the upcoming seven-person Q7, Audi is planning a coupe-styled crossover called the Q8 that will compete with BMW’s popular X6 and the upcoming Mercedes-Benz GLE. The Q7 will be one of Audi’s last models to be based on its current design language, but the Q8 will be a part of the new style currently on preview with the Prologue concept on display at the L.A. Auto Show.
Audi technical boss Ulrich Hackenburg told AutoCar that the project has been green lit and is entering development with arrival pegged to occur in roughly three years.
According to AutoCar, the base model will be powered by a 3.0-liter turbocharged gasoline V6 alongside an RS model that will come with a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8. There will also be diesel and plug-in hybrid models offered along with a tenuously planned electric version that could take on the Tesla Model X.
