The death toll associated with GM‘s ignition switch recall continues to rise.
The latest report has been released with an additional two deaths approved by the company’s compensation fund committee, making the number of total approved death claims 38. In addition, seven additional injury claims have been approved, making that total reach 51. Last week, only 47 new claims were submitted with death claims submitted now reaching 239 while serious injury claims are now at 150.
In total, 2,262 claims have been submitted to the General Motors compensation fund and as of last week, not a single offer made has been declined. The deadline for submitting claims is now set for January 31 after the company agreed to extend it by 30 days.
