Reading Mean YouTube Comments: AutoGuide 2014

None of us at AutoGuide.com imagined that our jobs would involve memorizing lines or standing in front of a camera.

None of us except for Craig Cole, who served as the senior vice president of the International Thespian Society from 1957 to 1961. But that’s not the point. We all sort of fell into filming video reviews and it’s been a learning process for each of us that we thoroughly enjoy. One of the first lessons we all learned after appearing on camera is that you need a thick skin. Online anonymity frees people to say some of the meanest, most hateful things they can imagine with unabashed candor.

We see most of the comments on our channel and yes, we generally think they are hysterical. That’s why we decided to cap off 2014 with a video in the spirit of Jimmy Kimmel’s “Celebrities Reading Mean Tweets” series. We aren’t celebrities by any stretch of the imagination, but some of the stuff people say about us really is funny. And sometimes deeply hurtful.

Happy holidays from everyone at AutoGuide.com.
