Sportier Boxster to Focus on Improved Handling

The sportier Porsche Boxster model that was recently spied testing won’t actually sport the GT4 nameplate.

Previously assumed to be the Porsche Boxster GT4 when it was spied testing late last year, the German automaker’s head, Wolfgang Hatz, confirmed that it won’t carry the GT4 name like the Cayman model. Hatz wouldn’t share what the model will specifically be named during a recent interview, but he did say that it was being developed by Porsche itself rather than the company’s motorsport division. As for performance, don’t expect the sportier Boxster model to top the GTS in terms of power (325 hp). Instead, the automaker’s engineers are focusing on putting the sports car on a diet and tuning its chassis for better handling.

Expect the new Boxster model to get a sportier front end with larger air intakes and a central air vent similar to what’s found in the upcoming 911 GT3 RS. Considering the facelifted Boxster won’t go on sale until later this year, expect the more hardcore model to make an appearance in 2016.

So, if it’s not getting more power, what’s the point of the larger air intakes?

Boxster already has great handling, will be interesting to see what reduced diet can do. Would this be like a spyder or R?
