Porsche Electric Car to Get AWD, All-Wheel Steering

Porsche is developing an electric vehicle that will rival the Tesla Model S and more.

The upcoming four-door, four-seater model will be heavily influenced by the 911 styling and will be more compact than the existing Panamera, according to a recent report from CAR. Internally, the model is known as the Porsche 717 and is being developed on the Volkswagen Group’s latest MSB platform that will be used in the next-generation Panamera and Bentley Continental models. More importantly, the 717 will definitely not be a crossover or SUV as Porsche wants to make its electric car sporty and eco-friendly.

In order for it to compete with the Tesla Model S P85D, Porsche is aiming to have all models to be equipped with all-wheel drive with four-wheel torque vectoring and four-wheel steering. It is also rumored that the German automaker will follow in the footsteps of Tesla by offering different levels of performance ranging from 400 hp to 600 hp while the driving range will be over 300 miles. Currently the company has a provisional launch date of 2019.
