Mercedes hasn’t just changed the name for its crossover and SUV offerings, but has ushered in a new generation of technology.
The 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLE 550e plug-in hybrid is powered by the same 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 found in the GLE 400 but the hybrid powertrain brings a total system output of 436 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque. According to the German automaker, the hybrid model is capable of reaching 81 mph on electric power alone and has a capable electric-only range of 18.6 miles.
Like other plug-in hybrids available in today’s market, the GLE 550e can take advantage of public charging stations as well as a home wall charging unit.
