2017 Audi SQ7 Spied with TDI Diesel Power

Audi is hard at work on the high-performance variant of the new Q7.

The next-generation Q7 debuted several months ago and now we have the first spy photos of the German automaker testing an SQ7 mule.

The quad-exhaust setup in the rear hints that this is no ordinary Q7 SUV, while the black plastic around the fog lights has been cut out for what appears to be openings for intercoolers. Audi has already said that the SQ7 will be a TDI diesel offering and this is confirmed by a shot of the tachometer inside the cabin, which shows a low redline, typical of diesel engines.

It is likely that the 2017 Audi SQ7 will be powered by the V6 TDI engine shown in the RS5 TDI concept car that uses electric turbos to help eliminate lag. In that application, the engine makes 385 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque. There is also a possibility Audi will outfit it with the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine found in numerous other “S” models in the automaker’s lineup.

Expect the 2017 Audi SQ7 to receive the traditional upgrades for a high-performance S variant including improved suspension, aggressive styling and an updated interior with sportier seats.
