Volkswagen is debuting a hot hatch next week in Austria.
Called the GTI Clubsport concept, it will make its debut at Lake Wörthersee next week, celebrating the Golf nameplate’s 40th anniversary. Based on the three-door GTI, the Clubsport concept will feature a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 261 hp, about 40 hp more than the standard GTI with the optional Performance Package. While the German automaker is keeping most of its technical specifications under wraps, expect the hatch to receive larger brakes, wheels, tires and more aggressive styling – as seen in the teaser images.
Up front, the GTI Clubsport concept has a much more aggressive profile thanks to a front splitter and a pair of larger air ducts while the rear gets a roof-mounted spoiler and a dual-exhaust system. Whether Volkswagen is looking to gauge interest for another model to slot between the standard GTI and the Golf R remains to be unseen, but Wörthersee is often a place for Volkswagen and Audi to celebrate some crazy designs.
