Jaguar is sending its new performance crossover to this year’s Tour de France.
Seen in full for the first time (although still wearing a camouflage of sorts), the Jaguar F-Pace Prototype will support Team Sky rider Chris Froome during the first stage of the 2015 Tour de France, the world’s most famous cycling race.
The F-Pace will be revealed in production form in September at the Frankfurt Motor Show, when all of the details will be announced. For now, we know that the crossover will share its platform with the Jaguar XE, which means we can expect a turbocharged four cylinder and a supercharged V6 under the hood, likely along with at least one diesel engine.
On July 4, the F-Pace Prototype will support Froome during the individual time trial, which starts at Utrecht in the the Netherlands. It will carry a team of four support members, including a doctor, mechanic and two directors, along with all the necessary drinks, parts, tools and clothing that Froome might need. Jaguar claims that the F-Pace has the biggest cargo area in its class.
The F-Pace will go on sale in 2016. Come back in September for all the details on the new crossover when it debuts at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
