Dodge Journey Recalled for Fire Risk

The Dodge Journey has been recalled for a possible fire risk.

The American automaker is recalling 349,731 Dodge Journey crossovers due to an issue with their engine covers. According to Dodge, the engine covers can potentially become dislodged, coming in contact with exhaust components and preventing them from moving again. Eventually, heat can result in a fire in the engine bay and there have been three reported incidents in Chile with one injury related to the issue, but no deaths.

Affected vehicles are equipped with the 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine and cover 2011-2015 model years. Approximately 144,000 of the recalled vehicles are in the U.S., while 43,679 are in Canada and 46,231 in Mexico. The remaining 115,405 are outside North America and approximately 10 percent are still in dealer hands.

Visiting a dealership will result in an upgraded engine-cover retainer once the recall starts next month.

“In each case, the vehicle had been driven extensively on unpaved or uneven surfaces,” Dodge said in a statement. “The company is aware of a single related injury, described as minor.”
