2018 Ford Mustang Getting Facelift, 10-Speed Automatic

12

The 2018 Ford Mustang is expected to get a new front end and a 10-speed automatic transmission as part of its mid-cycle refresh.

Redesigned for the 2015 model year, the Ford Mustang has become a hot seller, as the new Chevrolet Camaro lags behind the competition with its later arrival. Demand for the sports car has grown overseas and Ford will add the Shelby GT350 and GT350R models to the lineup this summer.

Although it seems too early to talk about a mid-cycle refresh, it is being reported that the American automaker will give the Mustang a facelift for the 2018 model year, along with a new 10-speed automatic transmission. Rumor has it that Ford will also introduce a Mach 1 edition around the same time as the facelift. Expect the next-generation Mustang to be introduced in 2019 or 2020.

Other Ford models expected to be refreshed in the near future include the Ford Escape for 2017. Recent spy photos have revealed that the 2017 Ford Escape will have styling changes mimicking what’s found on the redesigned 2015 Edge. A full redesign on the Escape is not expected to come until 2019.

The Fiesta will also be redesigned in 2018, at which point production is expected to move from Mexico to Thailand. The Focus will also be redesigned in 2018 and production of that model will leave the U.S. for Mexico.

The company’s best-selling model after the F series is the Fusion, which will receive a minor facelift in 2016, giving it a more upscale appearance.

These things were cool – in 1968.
Now however, we know that these gas guzzlers are killing us.
It is well past time that they be relegated to the dustbin on history.

10-speeds and a facelift? i will be keeping my eye on this development

  • Mike

Overkill on the transmission. A six speed is more than sufficient. Or even an eight speed. Look at how many problems FCA had with the nine speed. Just a bunch of unneeded crap.

I was waiting to see when Ford would develop a auto tranny for the Mustang like GM did with the Z06. Unfortunately its a little late for me since I will be on the market for a new modern muscle/sports car for 2017. The ZL1 and hellcat Charger are on my preferred list along with the Porsche Cayman S. Hopefully a test ride will seal the deal and keep the pricing under $80k.

Ten speeds? Sounds like a mountain bike! Things are getting out of hand …

spoken like a true self-centered nitwit. let’s find one of your passions and send that to the trashheap as well, you know just because. I’m sorry that you can’t appreciate other people’s passion for things that don’t interest you. Have you not been paying attention? while they don’t get the best gas mileage on the road, Ford, along with all auto manufacturers are constantly improving the gas mileage across the entire production fleet. You want to relegate an American icon to the dustbin because of one factor? how very un-American of you. And yes, they were cool in 1968, and they’re even cooler now. Ask an entire segment of population who call themselves car enthusiasts. I think you need to get a little looser pair of skinny jeans next time – they’re cutting off circulation to your brain.

Touched a sore spot eh little boy? Ego needs a little crutch does it?

Wrong. At least you get performance for the gas spent. The “gas guzzlers” you should be bitching about are the barges like the Escalade and Explorer, driven around by solo drivers 90 percent of the time. They’re empty boxcars hogging not only gas but space and visibility.

    Think it through.

Yawn. Wake us up when Ford puts this fat-ass on a diet, like it was supposed to THIS time.

While it is true that “nothing screams I’m confused, quite like a Cadillac Escalade” the reality is, nobody needs that power, and the extraction, processing and burning of fossil fuels is ruining our environment.

Did you see that we have already depleted the planets resources for the year?

  • Is a 10 speed automatic transmission really better than a 4 or 6-speed auto? I feel like we have more gears than ever before, but I don’t see MPG numbers increasing dramatically at the same time.
