Mazda is teasing a sports car concept that will debut at next month’s Tokyo Motor Show.
Releasing an image that shows the outline of the concept, it teases a swooping coupe design that hints at the potential of an RX-9 concept. According to Mazda, the “design of the sports car concept to be unveiled in Tokyo is modern but maintains a sense of lineage and authenticity, appearing almost to condense Mazda’s entire history of sports car development into a single model.” Considering the new-generation MX-5 Miata has already been introduced, there’s no other sports car in Mazda’s lineup with as rich of a history than the RX nameplate.
The Japanese automaker will display a total of 14 vehicles at this year’s Tokyo Motor Show including the recently debuted Mazda Koeru concept, a pair of racing-spec Mazda MX-5 Miatas and the Cosmo Sport first introduced in 1967.
