The upcoming Volkswagen Golf GTI Clubsport will be the most powerful production GTI in history, and will be able to go zero to 62 mph in 5.9 seconds.
The GTI celebrates 40 years in 2016, and Volkswagen is celebrating by releasing a special edition version of its popular hot hatch. This GTI’s 2.0L turbo four-cylinder has been tweaked to output 261 hp, a 41-hp boost over the regular model. The Clubsport will also come with an overboost function that increases power by 10 percent to about 285 hp for a quick 10-second burst.

Equipped with a six-speed manual, the front-wheel drive Clubsport will get to 62 mph in 6 seconds; a six-speed DSG shaves 0.1 seconds off that time. Top speed is 155 mph and fuel economy is rated at a combined 33.8 mpg for the manual and 34.8 for the DSG.
The Clubsport also gets some design tweaks that help improve aerodynamics and downforce. A new bumper, side sills, rear diffuser, a bigger spoiler and new wheels will also differentiate the special edition model.
The Volkswagen Golf GTI Clubsport will make its public debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show next week. Sadly, the GTI Clubsport won’t be coming to the U.S., and will only be available as a three-door model.
