Toyota is celebrating the 30th anniversary of Back to the Future with the introduction of its Mirai hydrogen fuel cell vehicle.
The Toyota Mirai will go on sale in the U.S. on October 21, 2015, which is also the futuristic date first introduced in Back to the Future II. To celebrate the intersection between the U.S. arrival of the Mirai and the innovation predicted in the movie, Toyota will be releasing a series of videos featuring actors Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd. While the Toyota Mirai represents the Japanese automaker’s vision of the future, Back to the Future enthusiasts will remember Marty McFly’s was a tricked out Toyota truck. Naturally, the company will have a Tacoma recreation of that famous 4×4 and we’ll find out where that will be headed come October 21 – but our guess would be the 2015 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The partnership between Toyota and Back to the Future will peak on October 20 as the clock nears midnight. At that point, Toyota will welcome the future in California with the Mirai on-sale launch.
“Over the years we’ve had a lot of fun predicting which Back to the Future fictional 2015 technology would arrive by the real year,” Michael J. Fox said. “Now that we’re a week away, I think fans are going to have a good time with what Toyota sees as a true possibility for transportation. It’s actually really cool.”
