There’s a hypercar brewing in Dubai and it wants 5,000 horsepower.
Dubbed the Devel Sixteen, the Dubai-based company has released a video showing off the potential of its powerplant that is being sourced from Steve Morris Engines.
The company wants to make a 5,000-hp hypercar, and as preposterous as that sounds, this new video suggests that it might actually become a reality. Using a 12.3-liter V16 engine with four massive turbochargers, the powerplant went on an engine dyno where it laid down 4,515 hp. That’s not quite 5,000 you say, but that’s because the engine dyno couldn’t hold any more power passed that mark.
Along with the ridiculous power output, the engine provided 3,519 pound-feet of torque. The team then took the boost from 36 psi to 20 psi to see how the engine would do on pump gas, or what they say is for “daily use” and it managed to churn out 3,002 hp and 2,407 lb-ft of torque.
If the Devel Sixteen becomes a reality, it will feature the most powerful engine ever built for a production car, the most powerful engine ever built on pump gas and the first and only V16 quad turbo engine for a production car.
