2017 Chevy Cruze Hatchback Revealed

A new variant is joining Chevrolet’s lineup of small cars, the Cruze Hatchback.

The hatchback has the same 106.3-inch wheelbase as the Cruze sedan and it offers 18.5 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seat and 42 cubic feet with the back seat folded down.

Power will come from a standard 1.4-liter turbocharged engine that uses direct injection and stop/start technology. In the Cruze sedan, this engine makes 153 horsepower and 177 lb-ft of torque, sent through a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic.

While the standard Cruze is available in four trim levels, the Cruze Hatchback will only be available in the top two, LT and Premier. Customers can opt for the special RS package, which brings along unique front and rear fascias, rocker panels, fog lamps and 18-inch wheels.

Standard inside the Cruze hatch is the MyLink infotaiment system which is capable of running both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Safety features inclue lane keep assist, rear cross traffic alert, blind zone alert and rear park assist.

“With 9 percent market growth in small hatchbacks last year, it’s the perfect time to bring the Cruze Hatch to America,” said Alan Batey, president, General Motors North America and Global Chevrolet.

The 2017 Cruze Hatchback will go on sale in fall of 2016. It will make its official debut at the 2016 Detroit Auto Show.

This looks so much better than the sedan version, which I’m far from crazy about.

  • Mike Schlee

    Yup, this has me intrigued.

  • Eric Cameron

Agreed. I’m interested to see it in person as well!

  • Darren Younge

I just hope this means we’ll finally get an SS version to go up against the Focus ST. GM hasn’t offered a real sport compact since the Cobalt SS.

  • Paul

This goes to the top of my list as my next ride. Good job Chevy.

I really wish they wouldn’t have changed the styling so drastically, especially the front end. I loved the look of my 2012 Cruze. The new style is much too Civic looking.

I am torn between the sedan and the hatchback. They both look awesome with the RS package added on. What will make me decide on the hatchback is if the trunk in the next Cruze is significantly smaller that the outgoing generation. Lastly they should turn the RS package into an actual sport package with a sport tunes suspension, LSD manual with a double clutch auto tranny option, and a 1.6T 4 instead of the 2.0. I say mix the 2.0 until they build a lighter version of it if they did not already.

I’ll never buy anything from GM again. they went broke filed bankruptcy got bailed out by my tax money – then took our jobs and ship the plants to China, WTF is that??? I use to indirectly work for GM when they owned Hughes Electronics and spun off and sold off Defenses to Raytheon, Electronics to AC Delco, GM kept Space and Comm for a while then sold that off to Boeing and kept DirecTV and then sold them off. I hope they go bankrupt again. Now I find out the technolody I use to work on DirecTV / Expressway / Spaceway satellite systems is what’s running their On-star on ALL GM cars, even if you don’t buy the service GM still tracks your every move and sell that to Big Data marketers without your knowledge or permission worse yet, they were giving that data to the F B I – Federal Bureau of Idiots without or warrant or probable cause. Yeah, right GM can go straight to H3LL before I buy anything from them again.

You need to get facts correct. Download the 2007 GM Financial statement — I think it’s on page 5 or 6 — sales by country — even at that time the majority of GM’s sales were outside the US. China is the world’s biggest auto market. You are stupidder than a bag of hammers if you think that the GM could export from the US to China profitably — even if the Chinese would allow it and there were no tariffs.

you don’t know what you are talking about. I am sure you are a toyota or ford fan. So tell the truth and just say I don’t like GM, I like another product.

The original Cruze was styled perfectly. This is a hit as well. If configured correctly it will compete with the Focus RS. Great job.

YOU Download their Bankruptcy court filings, their court papers, and see which jobs and plants after the bail-out they sent to China Dufus. DIP SH!T your DUMBER THAN A BAG OF COW DUNG.

Stanley, do us all a fav and go back to picking drooling over your bowl of strained peas and leave the thinking to adults.

Nice, even though the design is way too close to the Civic. I’m still wondering if they are still completely against making a coupe version like the old Cobalt coupe.
